The Power of Storytelling
I don’t know how many of you are parents, but for those of you who are, I bet you’re aware of just how much kids love stories! When my son and daughter were younger, I’d read stories to them, but more importantly, I’d tell them stories – from my childhood in Ghana, and also from my imagination. Why is storytelling such an amazing way to connect with others? To make them interested in what you have to say, to educate, and change lives? It’s simple, really. Because it takes them out of their own lives, and into someone else’s. In upcoming blog posts, I’m going to share some of my best stories, and my best storytelling strategies – how to create the tales that will bring change into your life and the lives of your audience members – whether clients or simply those who sit around you listening with rapt attention. One of my kid’s favorite books was Crow and Weasel. The author, Barry Lopez wrote, “If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive.” I’m looking forward to this storytelling adventure with you. After all, we’re creating our own story as we go along!
